Fossils: the evolution of an idea can be seen at the Royal Society in London until Friday 8 November, 2013. It combines an exhibition of books and archives from the Royal Society Library with fossils from the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences, Cambridge.

Tempest Anderson – explorer and surgeon is on at the Yorkshire Museum until 14 January, 2014. Tempest Anderson (1846-1913) travelled the world, exploring weird and wonderful landscapes. He had a life-long fascination with volcanoes, bringing back his amazing photographs to show people back home in York.
