HOGG 25th Anniversary Meeting

organised jointly with the Yorkshire Philosophical Society and York Museums Trust.

Wednesday 23rd October will be a morning of presentations and an afternoon of guided viewings of exhibits and specimens. The keynote speaker is Roger Osborne, author of several critically acclaimed history of geology books. The HOGG Annual General Meeting will take place between the morning and afternoon sessions.

In the evening a dinner will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of HOGG at the Ask Italian restaurant, housed in the historic York Assembly rooms. The dinner will be a self-choice menu to be paid for at the end. Please indicate on the Registration page if you would like to attend as numbers need to be booked.

Thursday 24th October is an optional field day – there is no extra cost and transport will be by shared cars. In the morning we will visit Kirkdale Cave (William Buckland’s main source of evidence for Reliquiae Diluvianae) and in the afternoon Rosedale Ironstone Mines in the North York Moors National Park, an important source of Jurassic ironstone prospected by geologists to supply the Cleveland Iron Industry. This will involve a walk of around 3km along a footpath with a gentle uphill stretch. Sensible footwear and outdoor clothing required. Return to York by 18.00. Please indicate on the Registration page if you wish to attend the field day.
